I should do this more often [Sep. 9th, 2007|10:22 pm]
So i WAS going to update this blog about a month ago. I was going to talk about how i might have had the most insane first month of work ever with: (in chronological order)

A house fire in Sykesville that may have been set to cover up the murder of an infant. The mother remains missing.

A house fire that killed a father and a daughter who had just competed high school. The cause of the fire was electrical.

A tractor trailer that ran through THREE houses in Clearfield. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

A house fire in Curwensville that killed two boys aged 8 and 10. I also had to cover the funeral. (That sucks, trust me.)

A car vs. pedestrian accident that killed a grandmother and her granddaughter in Mahaffey.

I was going to tell you all about this months ago then:

My grandfather died.

My grandfather was a great man. While he was in the Army he fought in Germany and Korea. He stormed Normandy beach. He was awarded five bronze stars and an arrowhead device for his work. We buried him last Friday in the Veterans Circle at Morningside. He is the man that, if i am lucky, could someday stand in the shadow of his greatness.

After taking my funeral leave time, i returned to work, and things had slowed down. Until...

Scott (my reporter) is getting fired. From what i understand, he is the first person ever fired before their probationary period (3 months) was compete.

Meanwhile, i keep feeling like my ass is on the chopping block as well. I constantly feel my stomach turning in on itself, like its all over every time the phone rings. But i keep plugging along, doing my job as best as i can. I've got too many bills to lose my job now.

People tell me that i'm doing a good job. I hope they're right.

Choices [Jun. 24th, 2007|09:39 pm]
[music |Tigers @ Braves]

I'm buying a new car! Well, not yet, but i am about six months away from buying one and i've gone out and test drove every entry-level (read: sub-compact to compact) car in the < $20,000 range, except for the Ford Focus and Chevy Cobalt and i'm going to test those tomorrow. The clear front runner so far is the Honda Civic, which was an absolute blast to drive - the problem being that i test drove a five speed manual, while i should have driven the automatic.

Maybe i'll do that tomorrow too. Couldn't hurt.

Carr's Car Rankings:
1) Honda Civic
2) Volkswagen Rabbit
3) Toyota Corolla
4) Dodge Caliber
5) Hyundai Elantra

Long time between updates? Update NOW! Click here! [Jun. 10th, 2007|11:15 pm]
Talk about embarrassing.

As i said before, i am apart of the 1% that gets to use their degree directly out of college. Now as it stands, i should be working at WJAC right now.

Or so i thought.

As it turns out, i thought i was to start on June 9th, when in actuality, i start JULY 9th.

em-barr-assed.

Other news and notes:

Me and Lindsey are back together after an extended hiatus. The biggest problem now is that we live a distance away from each other, and gas is expensive/my car is a chunk of shit and i'm never sure if 'Lorretta' can travel that far without something falling off.

I've started doing yoga as an exercise program. I'm trying to live a little healthier now that i'm at home. I'm working through the beginners DVD and i'll start doing 'power' yoga soon. Let me tell you - this shit is hard. The morning after i did some breathing exercises, some warm ups, and the 'Five Tibetans' i woke up thinking i had been in a fight. i've had the DVD for about a half a week, but i didn't do it today because i was out playing firefighter for most of the day and my abs still hurt like they did the first morning i woke up. This shit works and it kicks your ass.

One of my all time best friends Jeff LaBorde asked me to be his best man. Let me say this about him and his finance - It's about fucking time. They've been perfect for each other since day one. I've never seen Jeff talk about Mindy without a smile on his face.

Oh yea - I get to plan the bachelor party...

My old roommate Nick and his long time finance Jill finally made it official about a week ago. I was one of the groomsmen, and all of us had a great time. Minus the 350+ people at the wedding with no Air Conditioning, and all of us in wool suits. That part sucked.

I was born lucky. [May. 16th, 2007|12:43 pm]
Senior crawl was fun. It should be called se-noir crawl because most of the night was a mix of blacks, whites and greys.

You come up with a better joke. You ass.

To put this into proper perspective, I graduated with about three hundred Communication students, give or take. Of them, I belong to the 1% of those who got a job using their degree right out of college. Now don't get me wrong, I wont be rolling in dough, but its still awesome that I have this opportunity.

I'll work hard, because the harder i work - the luckier I get.

Write that down.

Last night of College [May. 10th, 2007|12:22 am]
'cue the melodrama:'

This is the last night of college, barring going to grad school someday. I fear what i may do when black out.

This one's going to hurt.

Decisions have been made, and ideas are in motion. [Mar. 16th, 2007|09:06 pm]
I have decided that i'm moving to Washington DC to work as a freelance videographer. There is a lot of work there for this type of job, the pay is sweet, and im really excited about it. I have a good idea about where i'll be living and the rent is pretty good, but the commute is its own version of hell.

So if you, or anyone you know is thinking about moving into the DC area, please let me know soon.

Also:

Las Vegas (x)
Washington DC (x)
Chicago ( )
Los Angeles ( )

These next few trips will complete possibly the greatest final semester anyone has ever had.

Thoughts on post graduation. [Feb. 17th, 2007|10:35 pm]
Ive been looking at some things for a while now and i cant really come to terms with any of them. These things are coming up, and coming up soon, so i should kind of get my ass in gear - but a heavy case of senioritist has settled in, plus more than a foot of snow. So i'm not doing shit.

1) Take the WJAC job >$22,000 a year - me getting offered the job seems like a good possibility.
2) Have my roommate from last year get me a job doing camerawork in D.C ~$35,000 a year - My friend "guaranteed" me a job there. I would love it, but im not taking it to the bank just yet.
3) Moving in with Shana out west and working in the film industry - the only thing that i would love more than living with Shana and getting drunk with her literary buddies all the time is working in film - which is about as far from a sure thing you can get.
4) Film School - the Vancouver Film School has an excellent program that only takes a year to complete. However, i dont know the cost yet, and living there is like living here...only colder.

I am looking for any and all help with these problems.

Woohoo! or...WiiHoo! [Jan. 17th, 2007|12:58 pm]
[music |Stephen Stephen - The Apples in Stereo]

I finally got my Wii, and have been playing it...a lot. Not really a problem, because its awesome. The Wii sports game that comes with the console is titties, and Zelda is one of the best games ive ever played.

Interesting side note, during all the previous Zelda games the only time i saw the words "GAME OVER" was in the original Zelda for the NES. That streak held until about 4 days ago when i got killed by the (fucking) Ball and Chain knight in the ice temple/yeti mansion.

Hi, I'm just writing a letter to someone in hospital.

You know it's always kinda hard to find the right words to say. You know, somehow "how's the weather in the hospital? Sure is nice outside" just doesn't work. But you gotta try, you know, you gotta show your concern. So here's what I got so far: "Dear Guy I Clotheslined As You Went By on Your Bicycle. You don't know me, but I'm the guy who broke your collarbone. Now, I've asked myself over and over, why did I clothesline that guy? Perhaps I watched too much slapstick as a kid and expected you to get up after being violently assaulted. Imagine my confusion when you did not. Although not so confused that I'd actually hang around. In all fairness, it was pretty funny. I mean the last thing you'd expect as you were riding merrily by on your bike is that someone you didn't know at all would stick out his arm and crush your throat. I mean, you really should've seen it, it was just like, wham! bam!

Anyway... in closing, as you lay there convalescing in your hospital be, I'm forced to wonder, what were you doing riding your bike on the sidewalk anyway? Huh, ya asshole? SideWALK?Maybe sometimes we bring heartache upon ourselves.

Signed,
The guy that collapsed your trachea."

I just posted a new story on autostories.livejournal.com

Its not great, and it very well might suck.

Tell me what you think.

In other news:

You Should Be a Film Writer

You don't just create compelling stories, you see them as clearly as a movie in your mind.
You have a knack for details and dialogue. You can really make a character come to life.
Chances are, you enjoy creating all types of stories. The joy is in the storytelling.
And nothing would please you more than millions of people seeing your story on the big screen!

[mood | discontent]

Sorry to all who read and havent because i havent posted in a while.

Ideas floating in my head in order of importance:

Film (Grad) School?

Whenever i think about graduating/job i have a anxiety/panic/heart attack. At the same time.

I think next semester im just going to start stroking out.

Moving out west (for work or school) scares the SHIT out of me.

Which makes me a hypocrite because i told Shana to shut up and do it.

Finding a good, level-headed woman is tough work.

I have a new story that ill be posting to Autostories before too long. So keep your eye out for that.
